Vesper Robert Marti, 96, of Greenville passed away on January 16, 2015 at Helia Health Care. Services will be held Tuesday January 20th at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Greenville. Visitation will take place on Monday January 19th from 4 to 7 PM at the Young Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery with military honors by V.F.W. Post #1377 Mr. Marti was born February 6, 1918 in Millersburg, the son of Robert C. and Marie (Broder) Marti. He attended Potts School in Mills Township. In 1939 he went to Mayfield, Kentucky and worked at Pet Milk for two years before entering the service. Mr. Marti served as an aircraft radio operator during WWII flying over Egypt, Sicily, and Bengasi. After his return from the service, he worked at the Akin Poultry Plant in Greenville. In 1952 he began working as a teller at the First National Bank in Greenville and he was later promoted to Trust Officer. Vesper retired in 1983 after 30 years at the bank and continued working there part-time for another five years. He was an enthusiastic bowler and golfer. Vesper bowled on the Monday night league for 52 straight years. One of his golfing accomplishments was a hole in one made in the fall of 1970. On August 4, 1948, he married Virginia Schell. She preceded him in death in January of 2013. Mr. Marti was also preceded by his sister, Mrs. Roberta Tepatti and brother, Virgil Marti, as well as his parents. Vesper is survived by his two daughters, Veanne (Dennis) Ennen and Valerie (Joseph) Leidner in addition to five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the St. Lawrence Church for masses or to the Bond County Hospice.
