S Douglas Young

Shelby Douglas Young, age 89, of Greenville passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019. A
private graveside service will be held at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

Doug was born March 2, 1930 in rural Sorento, Illinois to Shelby Talbot and Emily Lucille
(Wolfe) Young. He grew up in the Sorento and Greenville area and graduated from Greenville
High School. He married Joyce Childerson on December 29, 1951 in Greenville, Illinois. She
passed away September 14, 2011 a few months before their sixtieth wedding anniversary.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the service he attended SIU in Carbondale, Illinois and graduated from Greenville College in 1955. He worked as a seed salesman and an insurance salesman but spent the majority of his career as a loan officer at Production Credit Association.

After retirement Doug and Joyce enjoyed spending winters in Arizona. In his younger years he
liked to play the guitar with friends, and he was a great handyman.

He is survived by his son Alan Young of Greenville, Illinois, his daughter Susan (Brad) Sugg
also of Greenville, his sisters Avis (Dave) Barnes of Rochester, New York and Sharon (Bob)
Suiter of Yucaipa, California. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Elizabeth (John David)
Spencer of Dublin, Ohio, Megan (Craig) Henschen, of Alhambra, Illinois, Allison (Kyle) Martin
of Troy, Illinois, and Ryan (Jessie) Sugg and Brennan (Morgan) Sugg of St. Louis, Missouri,
along with his great grandchildren Emma, Ethan, and Easton Henschen and Tessa and Zachary Martin.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce, his brothers Louis and Paul, and his daughter-in-law Mary Ellen.
