Rev. Edward LaVerne Poore

Rev. Edward LaVerne Poore, age 82, of Smithboro passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:58 PM at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 11 AM at the The Young Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Deverick officiating. Burial will be in Maxey Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 - 7 PM at Young Funeral Home. Edward was born on January 28, 1933 in Clarksville, MO to James and Viola Tolbert Poore. He was married twice, first to Hulda DeSherlia Jernigan, then to Norma Moore on October 6, 1978 in Edwardsville, IL. He is survived by his wife, Norma, of Smithboro, IL and his children: Sons: Harry Poore of Lodi, CA, David L. Ulmer and wife Nancy of San Diego, CA, Daughters Paula Cope of Sparta, TN, and Jennifer Ulmer of Smithboro, IL. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Jim and Viola, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters. Edward grew up in the Alton, IL area, moved to Godfrey and became a taxi cab driver before owning and operating several mechanic shops in the towns of Alton, Edwardsville and Greenville. He joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War from 1950 - 1953. In 1964 he moved to Greenville to work at Wade Ford, he also worked for Jack Schmidt Ford in Collinsville for 20 years, retiring in 1995. He worked at Walmart in Vandalia as a sales associate for 12 years. At the age of 62 years, Edward became a minister and served at the New Beginnings Baptist Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Family.
