Raymond E. Rasler, age 92 of Greenville, passed away at Helia Health Care Thursday, March 27, 2014. Ray was born June 9, 1921, in Pana, Illinois to Ralph and Vera (Allen) Rasler. He was the oldest of five children and grew up in Pana, IL until he was 13 years old when the family moved to Greenville while his father opened Rasler's Plumbing. Ray graduated from Greenville High School in 1939 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps in August of 1942. He was honorably discharged on November 27, 1945 having received the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He married Vina Mayo on July 16, 1944, and was especially happy to come back to his beloved Bond County where he and his wife settled in and raised the family. Ray spent his vocation as a farmer; a heating and air conditioning contractor, as well as a propane distributor in the area. He enjoyed flying privately as a young man and farming for him was not only a vocation but a passion. Rasler and his wife Susan Hughey-Rasler of Greenville; daughter, Cathy A. McCormick of Richmond, Virginia; and a brother, Richard R. Rasler and his wife Jean of Greenville; two grandsons Bryce and Kyle McCormick of Richmond, VA, and one great granddaughter, Sage Rosemary McCormick.
