Lavelle F. "Cotton" Iberg

Cotton grew up in Millersburg area and moved to Greenville with his family as a youth. He graduated from Greenville High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 3, 1943. He married Jessie I. Muir on October 17, 1942 in St. Louis, MO. She died October 19, 1995. He served as a gunners mate and served on several ships during WW II. He was honorably discharged on November 18, 1945. Upon his return home he worked briefly in construction and then went to work for Illinois Power retiring in 1986. He was a member of the I.B.E.W., Masonic Lodge #245 AF & AM, V.F.W. Post #1377 and the Greenville First Christian Church He is survived by his son Larry (Nancy) Iberg of Greenville, his daughter Margaret Iberg of Greenville, his sisters Kathryn (Lloyd) Wilson of Granite City, IL, Marge (Chet) Shank of Greenville, his special friend Geraldine Smith of Greenville, IL. his sisters-in-law, Mary Iberg of Indianapolis, IN, Evalyn Osburn of Henderson NV, and Judy Stark of Springfield, IL. He is also survived by four grandchidren, Jim Iberg of Highland, IL, Shelley (John) Geiger of Highland, IL., Brad Iberg of Greenville, IL, Kristen (Zach) Messersmith of Spirngfield, IL. Also survived by seven great grandchildren Logan, Mason, & Jack Geiger, Allyson, Bryce & Mya Iberg, and Archer Messersmith along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son Robert Iberg, and a brother Richard Iberg. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Greenville First Christian Church Building Fund, Fair Oaks Nursing Home Activities Department, or Bond County Hospice.
