Laurene Marie Smith, age 96, of Greenville passed away Monday, April 6, 2015 at Helia Healthcare. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11 AM at Young Funeral Home. Burial will be in Montrose Cemetery. Friends may call Friday after 10 AM at the funeral home. Laurene was born on March 22, 1919 in Pocahontas, IL to Peter N. and Anna Mae (Bouillon) Schrumpf. She married D. Floyd Smith on November 24, 1949 in Greenville. He died March 10, 1993. She is survived by her daughter Janis Marie Smith of Greenville, her sister-in-law Gloria Schrumpf, and 15 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters Velma Gruem and Gladys Mettler Bandy, and seven brothers Clarence, George, Theodore, Delmar, John, Pete, and Roy Schrumpf Laurene grew up in the Greenville area. She attended schools in Alhambra and Greenville. She worked for Illinois Bell Telephone for 13 years. Later she was employed at Rinco Instrument Company and Utlaut Memorial Hospital. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Greenville First Baptist Church.
