Kenneth E. Henry, age 93, of Greenville passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. A Masonic Service will be conducted Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 7:30 PM at Young Funeral Home. Friends may call Wednesday, December 7, 2016 after 6 PM at Young Funeral Home. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Greenville Masonic Lodge #245 AF & AM or the DeMoulin Museum.
Ken was born July 27, 1923 in Vandalia, IL to Archie Stilts and Lottie Ertle (Diveley) Henry. He married Esther Violet Abernathy of Carlyle on September 4, 1948 in Hernando, MS. He is survived by his wife Esther of Greenville, his children Pamela (Syd) Safriet of O'Fallon, IL, Michael (Melisa) Henry of Woburn, IL, and Jan (Don) Dalenberg of Pocahontas, IL, six grandchildren, one step- grandchild, twelve great grandchildren, and 2 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Norma Jean Runkel.
Ken grew up in Vandalia and graduated from Vandalia High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from February 20, 1942 to October 26, 1945 and in 2009 he was privileged to participate in the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. After the service, he went to work for Western Electric, retiring from Illinois Bell (AT&T) in 1986. He lived in Carlyle, IL for a time and then moved to Cairo, IL. He moved to Greenville in 1968. He was a member and past master of The Cairo Masonic Lodge and Greenville Lodge #245 AF & AM. He was a member of Pocahontas Gordon Lodge #473. He belonged to The Scottish Rite Bodies, Ainad Temple, and was a charter member of the Bond County Shrine Club. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. and a past member of the Bond County Fair Board. He attended the Greenville First Christian Church.

So many wonderful memories! Especially summer vacations and a wonderful New Year's Eve when Kenny and family came to our home to visit. We didn't usually do anything special on New Year's Eve so it was a real treat to have a party and play games and enjoy being with our cousins. We will always hold you in our heart. Our sincerest sympathy to Aunt Esther and family…my fondest memory was spending Thanksgiving with Ken and Esther as a young child remembering Uncle Ken cooking the turkey outside and using 7up! I was full of questions…and Uncle Ken said …go asked Esther!!! Could always count on a laugh a smile when visitjng. Will miss you!! Love you to God and back!!! Glen and Julie
I worked for many years with Mr. Henry's daughter Pam and her hubby Syd Safriet. I know the deep love members of that family shared. My deep condolences at the passing their dear one. It is nice to know he was a man of faith and is with his other loved ones till we all meet again.
Dear Mrs. Henry, We send our love, thoughts, prayers out to you and your entire family. I am so glad our "Girlie Slumber Group" had the opportunity to visit you and Mr. Henry the weekend we all were at Pam's in August. I/we cherished this afternoon visit at your home in Greenville; I shall always remember that afternoon. Was good my Mom had the opportunity to share our time as well. Mr. Henry and yourself always made me feel welcome in your home and always carried a smile! My memories…of course, Mr. Henry worked for the telephone company in Cairo, proving to be a big advantage when Pam and I spent our long hours on the telephone and he would try to call home! He always kidded us about that; of course, we still do (talk long minutes!)! I remember slumber parties at your home, living in Cairo–junior high/high school. I remember Mr. Henry passing out those Father of the Bride cards at Pam and Syd's wedding! I remember your most recent Anniversary Celebration! There were those years in between, but I still kept in touch on how you both were doing through Pam/Syd. Thank you, Mr. Henry, for being the person you were. May God's Peace and Love be with you both, Sharon L. (Althoff) Peterson and family.
