Hattye E. Siebert

Hattie E. Siebert passed away at Whisperwood Care Center in Lubbock, Texas. She was born in Pana, Illinois to Asa and Rachel (Campbell) Satterfield. She is survived by her son Richard Braye and his wife Anna of Lubbock, TX, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She married Wayne Braye on October 8, 1939 in Pana, IL. He died in June of 1971. She later married William Siebert on April 18, 1985 in Mulberry Grove, IL He died February 28, 1991. She grew up in Pana, IL and moved to Taylorville after her first marriage. She and her husband then moved to Mulberry Grove in 1953. She worked for Mulberry Grove First National Bank for 42 years. She moved to Texas in 2003.

Thanks for sharing this aitrcle. I find the rapid decline in the genetic diversity of our food supply alarming (the graphic above really brings home the point solidly). My husband Bill and I raise a rare breed of pig, Red Wattle hogs, on our farm, and we occasionally run into folks who wonder how we can bring ourselves to eat an endangered species. We explain that, since their purpose is to provide food, in order to save them, one must eat them. Otherwise, we and other farmers would not be able to afford to raise them, and they quickly would go extinct, their unique genetic make-up lost forever. One more reason to try to eat fresh, locally-grown food as often as possible.
