Obituary for Gary R. Moore

Gary R. Moore, age 75, of Smithboro passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland, IL. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 7 PM at Young Funeral Home. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday, June 1, 2016 after 4 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to The American Diabetes Association.

Gary was born March 16, 1941 in Canton, IL to Alpha Harry and Margaret (Lynch) Moore. He married Susan Zwilling on June 8, 1973 in Granite City, IL. He is survived by his wife Susan of Smithboro, his sons Shaun Moore of Vandalia, IL and Aaron Moore of Smithboro, IL, and also his grandchildren Donovan Moore, Katie Moore, Maddie Moore, Jennifer Moore, and Braden Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents

He grew up in Canton and moved to Granite City with his family when he was in his teens. He served in United States Army from November 8, 1963 to November 7, 1965 and was stationed in Viet Nam. After the military he went to work as a machinist at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis and continued there after it became Boeing. He moved to Smithboro in 1976. He served as the Illinois Representative for the I.A.M., he was a 33rd degree Mason, he served two terms and Mayor of Smithboro, and was also a Democratic Precinct Committeeman.
