Obituary for Doris June Mayfield

Doris June Mayfield (nee Mindrup) of Greenville went Home to her beloved Savior on February 10, 2016. She was 87 years of age. Doris was born on August 18, 1928 in Mount Olive, Illinois to Carl and Esther (Henschen) Mindrup. On May 20, 1950, she married Lyle Mayfield in Vandalia, IL and they enjoyed 62 years together. He preceded her in death on March 31, 2012. Doris was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marie Thacker, her brother Harold Mindrup, and her son David Mayfield. Survivors include a daughter, Lynda Smith (husband, William Smith) of Dallas, TX, son Layne Mayfield (wife Brenda Mayfield) of Vandalia, IL, special friends Barbara and Martin Smith of Tamalco, IL, . Surviving grandchildren include Ryan Smith (wife Libbi), Marion Mayfield, and Nathan Smith (wife Jessica). Doris is also a great grandmother to Langston Joel Smith. Doris is also survived by her brother Bob Mindrup of Alhambra, and sisters Lila Reckmann, Alhambra, IL Madeline Eyman and her husband Kenneth, of Mulberry Grove, IL and Edna Wiss and her husband "Bud", of Vandalia, IL, and also her sister-in-law Betty Mindrup of Assumption, IL.. Doris lived in Greenville for more than 50 years and for the past 3 �_ years has been a resident at Helia Healthcare Center. She was well known for both her hospitality and her music. She and her husband Lyle sang and played folk music and entertained countless friends and family in their home and other venues. She wrote hundreds of songs and poems throughout her life. Doris loved people and had a way of making everyone feel welcome. The most important things in her life were her faith, her family, and her friends. Almost anyone she came into contact with became her friend.and many became her "adopted" family. Doris was a member of the Central Christian Church in Greenville, where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She also had a nursing home ministry and reached out to the elderly in the community. She unselfishly devoted herself to the needs of others and most of all to her family. Her loved ones have many special memories and "her children rise up and call her blessed." (Proverbs 31:28) Her Homegoing service will be conducted at First Christian Church in Greenville on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11 AM. Burial will be in Montrose Cemetery, Greenville. Friends may call Friday, February 12, 2016 from 4-8 PM at The First Christian Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Southern Illinois Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the Greenville Central Christian Church.
