Betty Jean Moore

Betty Jean Moore, age 93, of Greenville, IL passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Greenville Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 6, 2019 at 10 AM at The Smith Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL. Friends may call Thursday, September 5, 2019 from 5-8 PM at Young Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Smith Grove Baptist Church

Betty was born November 16, 1925 in Bingham, IL to Herbert Edgar and Pearl May (Burns) Thompson. She married James A. Moore, Jr. on June 25, 1948 in Alton, IL. He died April 10, 2011. She is survived by her son Jeff Moore and his wife Gena of Greenville, IL. her daughter Kathy Turner and her husband Gary of Clermont, FL. her sister-in-law Marsha Kuhn and her husband Bob of Holland, MI, six grandchildren. Stephanie (Greg) Stortzum, Susan (Tom) Tomko, James (Joanna) Moore, Matthew Turner, Katie (Bill) Welsh, and Andrew (Lindsey) Turner along with eleven great grandchildren Savannah Stortzum, Logan Stortzum, Gavin Stortzum, Lizzie Tomko, Tripp Tomko, Lukas Moore, Annabelle Welsh, Henry Welsh, Mavis Welsh, Kamryn Turner, and Mason Turner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, her sisters Virginia Walkington and Lois Wallwebber, and two great grandchildren Landen and Cooper Tomko.

She grew up in Alton, IL and graduated from Alton High School. She attended Shurtleff College. She and her husband lived in several central Illinois communities where he taught school. They moved to Greenville in 1961. She started work as a secretary at DeMoulin Brothers in 1964 and retired in 1987. She was an active member of Smith Grove Baptist Church
