Alvin E. Redding, age 81, of Sorento, IL passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 at 7:05 AM at his home. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be private. The family will hold a Celebration of His Life at the Firehouse in Sorento, IL on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 2-5 PM. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Bond County Hospice or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Al was born August 14, 1938 on the family farm in Sorento, IL to O. Elton and Cora (Grigg) Redding. He married Betty (Pryor) Denny on February 22, 1964 at his brother's home in Granite City, IL. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty Redding, five children; twins Donald (Delores) Redding of Sorento, IL, and Donna Redding (Steve) Hasenmeyer of Greenville, IL, Richard Denny of Butler, IL, Sheryl Denny (Rick Crawford) of Litchfield, IL, and Gail (Doug) Smith of New Douglas, IL. He also helped raise Jennifer Hoxsey of Sorento, IL. He is also survived by his siblings, Fern (Vince) Lovett of O'Fallon, IL, Mary (Virgil) Ponder of Indialatic, FL, and Glen (Naomi) Redding of Sorento, IL. His is also survived by eleven grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
His painting career started by painting bridges for a railroad in northern Illinois. In 1960 he started painting with Tip Martin in Greenville and joined the Painters Local Union 910 and has been a member for 59 years. In 1970 he started Redding Painting. He loved to hunt deer and was a life long St. Louis Cardinal fan.

My Dad, Charles Voyles, had great memories of Alvin and Dad when they were young and growing up together. I especially liked the milking of the squirrel story. Condolences to the family. Cathy Voyles
My husband n I met Al n Betty while camping at Gnaw Bone Campground which was across from their home. Al would take walks with Larry up the road or just sit under their shade tree talking about our travels. They also had a conversation about a Hornets Nest that was right out side their driveway in a tree that overhung in the road. It was the biggest one I had ever seen. Al n Betty were such wonderful people. Our Deepest Condolences on ALS passing. May Gods loving arms give you peace & strength during this time of morning God bless you All.
