Karen Jo "Kay" Brewer

Karen Jo "Kay" Brewer, age 86, of Greenville, IL passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Friends may call Friday June 8, 2018 from 5-8 PM at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Bond County Hospice.

Kay was born December 20, 1931 in Charleston, IL to Clifford Emil and Naoma (Kirk) Moore. She married James W. Brewer on May 29, 1968 in Greenville, IL. He died May 26, 1983. She is survived by her children H Henry Husmann and his wife Mary Kay of New Melle, MO and Kacinda J. "Kacie" Schuster and her husband Rich of Greenville, IL along with her stepson Ted P. Brewer of Greenville, IL.

Oma is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Hunter H Husmann, Mitchell Quincy Kluwe, Russell William Kluwe, Zachary Kirk Husmann, Eric William Husmann, John Henry Schuster, and Rickie Lee Schuster and her husband Estevez Quinones, along with her step-grandchildren Jacob James Brewer and his wife Megan, Emily Marie Brewer, Rachel Elizabeth Brewer, and Joanna Lynn Moore and her husband James. She is also survived by 2 great grandchildren and 1 step-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband and by her brother Emil Moore.

She grew up in Charleston, IL and graduated from Eastern Illinois State High School. She attended Eastern Illinois University where she received her teacher's certificate. She taught school in Charleston for one year, briefly in the Edwardsville, IL school system, then on to teaching special education in The Bond County Community School District until she retired in 1992. She was a member of NEA, IEA, GEA, ASHA, ISHA, SWISHA, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Greenville.
